Romania is a beautiful and diverse country - geographically, culturally and architecturally. Almost the size of the UK (237 500 square km), Romania has a great potential as a holiday destination, offering a variety of choice with lovely beaches, mountain forests, alpine meadows, medieval villages and gothic castles, the countryside is still  relatively untouched by major development. The majority of the 22.3 million population are Romanians 89%, the biggest ethnic minorities are Hungarian - 7.5%  and Gypsy - 1.9%, but there are also German, Ukrainian, Armenian, Croatian, Serbian and Turkish communities.

Romania has a continental climate with warm summers, sunny springs and autumns and cold winters. In the summer the country is a perfect beach destination or ideal walking territory (with some very beautiful landscapes).  Winters are cold with snow, making Romania ideal for all kind of winter activities. There are several popular winter sports centres located within 2 hours of the capital Bucharest.
